Unusual. Palestinian doormat. Palestinian Rap
A unique doormat. That of Majd, a Palestinian friend who comes home and wipes his shoes on the flags of the European Union, UN and Arab League which it says have not moved an inch during the Israeli offensive in Gaza

A candid in the Holy Land
9. Palestinian getaway. A candid in the Holy Land.
After a tour of the most murky of the old city of Hebron , after visiting the Tomb of the Patriarchs , music, the dabkeh to be precise, I left my "musings." A breath of fresh air. Despite all life seems to continue in Hebron.
In music, what better sign of life and hope can we find? Naively, I asked whether this was a marriage. They replied in the negative.
This is the celebration of a "martyr" killed by the Israeli army during a demonstration against the offensive in Gaza. He left the mosque in another version. Still, I never imagined that we could "celebrate" death with music. Patriotic songs I learned afterwards.
Last but not least. Posters of Palestinian youth were distributed and candy.
Decidedly Hebron is a city like no other.

Mi mosque, synagogue mid
8. Palestinian Getaway: Mi-mi Mosque Synagogue.
A Shrine Mosque mi-mi synagogue. A sweet dream? Not a terrible nightmare in Hebron.
The Tomb of the Patriarchs where lie Abraham, Jacob or Isaac was partitioned into two prayer halls: one Muslim and one Jewish.
one place. 2 religions. 2 entries. This did not stop in 1994, Baruch Goldstein from entering the mosque and killed 29 Palestinians and injuring hundreds more. Until today, the Hebron settlers celebrate this man is, in their eyes, a "martyr."

Your house or the lives of your children. The terrible blackmail settlers from Hebron.
7. Palestinian Getaway: Your home or the lives of your children. The terrible blackmail settlers from Hebron.
Hebron. Al-Khalil in Arabic.
A city that I knew her only by name to house the tomb of Abraham. I had heard of extremism Jewish settlers there with an address but the reality has exceeded what I ever imagined.
Hebron. Palestinian city of 170,000 inhabitants. 600 Jewish settlers protected by Israeli soldiers close to 3000. 5 Israeli soldiers to be a settler.
By "walking" in the old town, we met a young Palestinian who showed us around his house. Or rather what is left ... The settlers have set fire using petrol bombs killed two children in the family (2 and half years and 4 years old).
The "reason" as an acquaintance Palestinian working for international NGOs: the father's refusal to sell his house despite the insistence of the colonists who had offered him $ 1 million. After the death of two children, they offered him $ 2 million. Refusal. Since a third child was killed. Whatever the mother wore. Prevented a mother to give birth in good conditions because the settlers have prevented the entry of the ambulance picked her up in the city. After that, they beat the woman killed the baby she had given birth to.
Today, this family of 11 people living in one room. Settlers prevent repair part burned and threatened with death.
A story almost "banal" in the old city of Hebron emptied of its Palestinian inhabitants. And for good reason!

What is a Palestinian?
6. Palestinian Getaway: What is a Palestinian?
We used to talk of "Palestinians", the "Palestinian people". Yet socially, it is completely broken. Inside the territory which will be called "Israel-Palestine, I see at least five categories of" Palestinians "
- The Arabs of Israel.
- Palestinians in Gaza
-
West Bank Palestinians - Palestinians of Jerusalem.
- Palestinian refugees.

"The Palestinian settlement"
5. Palestinian getaway: "colonization Palestinian"
"Colonization of Palestine" in the West Bank. An expression that I will imagined not hear during this stay and even less in the mouth of a Palestinian. For it is a Palestinian who uses this expression somewhat disconcerting.
It refers to the refugee camps now become real neighborhoods or even cities. Evicted from their land or seek shelter until the end of the wars of 1948 and 1967, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians into exile. Much has taken up residence on land in the West Bank while waiting for better days to find their homes. The better days are never arrived and the tents have become homes.

The Palestinian I met refugees to assimilate these "settlers" as they have built houses on land not belonging to them. He also accuses them of not paying water or electricity because of their status as "refugees" even if they work. According to him, a penalty of 5 shekels (about 1 Euro) would be deducted each month for participation in the costs of refugees.

"a Libyan called me"
4. Getaway Palestinian "A Libyan called me."
It's been the talk of West Bank Palestinians. Calls pro-Palestinian supporters. During the Israeli offensive on Gaza, associations and Arab countries have asked to telephone the Gazans to express his support. Calls from Yemen to Gaza were even free!
The procedure is simple: just dial the Palestinian issue and then make a at random and hope for a Gazan phone call away. Instead of hitting Gazans, many generous "telephone" have fallen on West Bank Palestinians. Bad pick.
"We believe many of you" or "We have not eaten today because the people of Gaza are deprived of food," as many marks of attention that the Palestinians I met in turn derision.

Gaza, so close and yet so far ...
3. Palestinian Getaway: Gaza, so close and yet so far ...
Once the Israeli stamp obtained we headed to Jerusalem and Bethlehem, where Palestinian lives friends with whom we were accommodated during our stay.
Bethlehem is 85 km from Gaza.
So close and yet the evening of my arrival, Gaza seemed so far away. After a lengthy journey from 21h (Paris-Istanbul-Amman-Jerusalem-Bethlehem), we had a haste to resume our minds. Done in a cafe in Bethlehem. Flat screens connected Al Jazeera when it announced the death of Said Siyam, a leader and Minister of Hamas.
Then suddenly, one of the servers zap, is Rotana, which broadcasts, as usual, videos Lebanese, Egyptian ...
few minutes later, the room darkens. No this is not a power outage. We celebrate a birthday. Singing, shouting, whistling, applauding it. I admit I was shocked by so much light, so only a few tens of kilometers from here, Hundreds of Palestinians have died, the sight are on the street ... A young Palestinian man then tell me "We had the first intifada, the second, the disillusionment of Oslo, we need to think of something else to continue to live. "

3h at Israeli checkpoint.
Palestinian Getaway: 3 at Israeli checkpoint.
From Amman, we took a taxi and a bus that dropped us at the border, the Israeli checkpoint. The Palestinian-Jordanian border is controlled by the Israelis.
After tense for my passport. First question: "Amikhaa, wherrre are you frrom? . I say that I am French. Obviously, my answer does not satisfy my Israeli interlocutor. He explains that "for security reasons", my friend Franco-Moroccan and I will be selected "some time".
It lasted three hours after which I dealt with four different Israeli interlocutors. During the "interviews" when this is not another officer who observes you while her colleague asking you endless questions, these are the cameras. After 3 hours of waiting, it seems they are concluded that I do not represent any threat to Israel. Good to know!
Last question before me the Israeli visa (although I only stayed in the West Bank ...): Are you in possession of weapons?
My girlfriend, Sarah, she had the right to questions most fun a slut, "what do you think prices of Lonely Planet? (Yes ... yes ....) And "how's your mother? "(She had visited Jerusalem with her mother last year).

Jerusalem Is Calling!
1. Palestinian Getaway: Jerusalem Is Calling!
Here are 4 days since I returned from the West Bank. I finally take the time to write down some anecdotes, impressions and souvenirs. I needed to wait a bit to do, I can not say why exactly.
I left the West Bank on a whim with a girlfriend of Sciences Po full Israeli offensive in Gaza. With some outfits for baggage and especially a camera. It was last Wednesday, January 14.
Having had several rejections echo or Arab citizens of Arab origin, we preferred to land at Amman in Jordan rather than Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. In case of rejection at the border Jordanian-Palestinian under Israeli control, we can always spend a week in Jordan, Syria or Lebanon. If returned to Tel Aviv, we would have been returned to Paris.
Arrive in Amman around 2am. This time with my French passport, I had no problem with my entry ... Early taxis to the border Jordanian-Palestinian controlled by the Israelis that their service starting around 7am, we spent five hours pretty surreal to Amman airport. I can tell in a post :-)

Gaza to cover the conflict without access to land. Testimony of Charles Enderlin. The French
Lesson of the 2006 war in Lebanon, Israel understood that military superiority is not enough. We must also win the media war. In 2006, journalists were on both sides of the front and could keep themselves informed of the progress of the Israeli operation. That Israel has had enough. The entrance to Gaza was closed to journalists ... same Israelis. Ostensibly for security reasons.
Customers, themselves, are not idle. The Web today is full information and pictures from Gaza and Israeli border towns like Sderot. No or few journalists in Gaza but bloggers . Point a real war seems to deliver on the net today .
is in this context that I tried to contact some French journalists on the ground. The situation in Gaza and Israel are increasingly tense and volatile, I do not expect to receive specially response. It turns out that Charles Enderlin, bureau chief of France 2 in Jerusalem took the time to answer my e-mail and give me his phone number in Israel. Here is his testimony. He explains how it works these days of war, but also attempts to manipulate both the Israeli and Palestinian.
