5. Palestinian getaway: "colonization Palestinian"
"Colonization of Palestine" in the West Bank. An expression that I will imagined not hear during this stay and even less in the mouth of a Palestinian. For it is a Palestinian who uses this expression somewhat disconcerting.
It refers to the refugee camps now become real neighborhoods or even cities. Evicted from their land or seek shelter until the end of the wars of 1948 and 1967, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians into exile. Much has taken up residence on land in the West Bank while waiting for better days to find their homes. The better days are never arrived and the tents have become homes.
The Palestinian I met refugees to assimilate these "settlers" as they have built houses on land not belonging to them. He also accuses them of not paying water or electricity because of their status as "refugees" even if they work. According to him, a penalty of 5 shekels (about 1 Euro) would be deducted each month for participation in the costs of refugees.
